I've never seen most of the raid dungeons in World of Warcraft - the top-end dungeons that require up to forty players to fight through. Several years ago, back when my character was level 60, I made it as far as the first boss in Molten Core and the second in Zul'Gurub. Raiding required more commitment than I was willing or able to give.
Now, however, two expansions later, my character is at level 76 and those old dungeons aren't quite as challenging as they used to be. Last night my guild organised a Molten Core run, for old time's sake, and in just over two hours, eight of us were able to do what used to require a group of forty: kill every boss in there, up to and including Ragnaros. We wiped only once, on Baron Geddon.
To be honest, Molten Core itself wasn't much to look at - all dark rock and orange lava, fire elementals and core hounds (although Ragnaros himself was impressive - so big that I spent the entire fight with only his bottom half visible on my screen). But I was still excited to finally see the place, along with the showers of epic purple loot that dropped like candy from the bosses we killed (even though, at level 76, that loot isn't quite as epic any more).
So even though this killshot may not have the significance it used to, back in the day, it still captures a highlight of my WoW-playing career. Here's hoping the guild will organise some runs of the other old raid dungeons too.
